A Common Vision: Why Anthologies Are So Inspiring

  |   leadership, make a difference, motivation   |   No comment

Poet Robert Pinsky wrote in “Singing School,” (2013) that the best anthology is the one each reader compiles, personally, according to his or her judgment, pleasure and awe.

It reminds me that I have always loved anthologies…those wonderful collections of thoughts and stories from a variety of different authors all compiled into one great read.

Even as a young woman, I would collect passages, essays and poems from various authors and clip and past them into scrapbooks of things I loved. This was my first foray into the pleasure of compiling anthologies.

We are knee-deep in the final touches of our fourth Dream Big, Being Bold anthology publication to be launched on January 23rd.  We love the array of 100+ visionaries from different industry sectors, life experiences and cultures that we have been privileged to showcase so far.  I love the diversity of perspective and the authentic stories that are shared making our books not only inspirational but teachable nuggets that anyone can take away and apply to their life.

We are so thrilled that each of the three previous volumes have been Amazon bestsellers as it has helped our authors to elevate themselves as subject matter experts and gets them to published author quickly and easily.  The success of this series has led us to publish other books and has anchored Dream BIG Be BOLD Media as a leader in anthology publications for subject matter experts who want to increases their reach, leverage their community and make a bigger impact. We help other visionaries increase their community and reach through the development and launch of their own anthology publication based on a theme of their choice.  Contact info@dreambigbebold.com for more information to see if you qualify.

In our anthologies, we are excited to be able to tell the stories of so many entrepreneurs and professionals, life’s helpers and healers who inspire us all. We are amazed at th

e insight that comes from professional service providers, life-coaches, motivational speakers, therapists, creative artists, financial wizards and corporate CEO’s. The list of experience is varied and wide.

For our authors, their voice of authority and expertise is heard by a broader group of people without the expense and stress of writing and publishing an entire book. Being part of the anthology allows them to “expand their tribe” as the saying goes.

It strikes me as interesting that the word anthology is from the Greek word, anthologia, which means a collection of flowers. I see it as a way that we help our authors to bloom to a new audience, a wider audience and one that is fascinated by them and their work.

Anthologies have long been popular for poets and literary artists, but bringing them to the world of business is our goal. We watched how the Chicken Soup for the Soul anthologies tapped into the hearts and spirits of ordinary people doing and thinking extraordinary things and marveled at their sustaining popularity.

Our own authors are achieving tremendous success in the months and weeks that follow their inclusion in our best seller Dreaming Big, Being Bold anthologies, and that inspires us to continue producing them.

Personally, I believe anthologies are so popular because they give readers a chance to dive into places, experiences and the minds of people that they would never have a chance to consider under everyday circumstances.

I find myself newly inspired with what so many of our authors had to overcome to achieve their success. It comes hard-earned to the majority of them, and their advice and insight into staying focused in the midst of tremendous trials is nothing short of astounding.

Anthologies are wonderful antidotes to long biographies in an age of shortened attention spans as well. You can invest 15 minutes to explore an interesting life story or business idea or personal revelation, but you don’t want to commit all the hours it takes to read an entire book.

It’s like watching a variety show, and the whole philosophy behind such shows as America’s Got Talent, American Idol and The Voice. It is an investment of your time with the possibility of learning, seeing or getting to know more about something or somebody wonderful.

It is a tantalizing read for all of those reasons, and that, plus the care and attention we take in bringing our authors together, is what makes it work.
