Five Podcasts To Help You Grow Your Business
Whenever I advise clients to take steps to be aware of the latest topics and trends in their industry, they often respond that they are too busy to read books or magazines or special reports.
As a result, they keep churning out what they do with expertise, but inevitably without innovation, and that is because their creative well starts to run dry.
The perfect solution for people who want to learn new ideas and trends but don’t have time to read is the podcast. You can multitask while you take in the messages offered and not feel guilty about it.
You can become an expert on any new topic while you drive to pick up the children at day care or head for a meeting in another city. You can listen in the evening while you fold the laundry or cook supper or mend a fence.
If you haven’t used podcasts before, you can listen to them on your smartphone, iPod or computer. They have different formats, from news broadcasts to audiobooks to talk show formats or even call-in shows.
It is kind of like listening to a radio, but it is not radio because you are hearing a series of pre-recorded audio or video files from the Internet that are being channeled to you through your device.
When you hear a podcast that you like, you can subscribe to it if you want to automatically receive every new instalment.
I listen to podcasts using iTunes, but you can also use apps like Spotify and MediaMonkey.
Here are five great podcasts about business growth that will give you good ideas for the year that stretches ahead.
Stories you just have to hear
I like Mixenergy (https://mixergy.com/) because it lives up to its mission of introducing listeners to doers and thinkers whose ideas and stories are so powerful that just hearing them changes us.
It is the brainchild of Andrew Warner who in his 20s with his younger brother created an online greeting card company that generated $30 million a year in sales.
You will learn something new every time you listen to one his interviews with the founders of some amazing businesses.
Keep coloring me Pink
I like Daniel Pink’s books and I love his podcast, Office Hours (http://www.danpink.com/office-hours/).
He assembles educational programs featuring some of the world’s most innovative thinkers (Biz Stone, Malcolm Gladwell and Tom Peters) and turns them loose on topics that all centre on passion and personal growth.
You will be inspired to take yourself to the next level with this series.
Blending life experience and knowledge
Talking about leadership concepts and helping to mentor leaders is a huge part of who I am and what I do, and I am always looking for new ideas or insight about leadership issues.
I get lots in the podcast Dose of Leadership (www.doseofleadership.com).
It is an offering from Richard Rierson, a leadership expert and former Marine Corps officer, aviator, and professional executive. He believes that we should add value to every transaction in life and inspires everyone to think and act like a leader.
He offers provocative podcasts featuring some of the world’s most interesting leaders.
Collection of fascinating lectures
To hear some pretty amazing lectures as a podcast, tune in for the Stanford Entrepreneurial Thought Leader Series (http://etl.stanford.edu/). It is a really well done series of fascinating talks by some of the world’s most famous speakers and covers a huge variety of topics.
For another refreshing look at entrepreneurship from a variety of fascinating perspectives, check out the Entrepreneur on Fire podcast (https://www.eofire.com/podcast/).
