How To Become Extraordinary At Sales

  |   confidence, leadership, motivation   |   No comment

There is really only one secret to being extraordinary at sales.

That is to look at every single product or service you sell through the customers’ eyes.

Be creative. Consider every possible reason this product or service could be useful to you as a customer. Why would you even consider buying it? What problem would it solve for you? What difficulty could it prevent? Will it make you happy? Will it do something essential in your life?

Be deliberate. What ways could this product or service be used to amplify your goals and reach your purpose? Will it make you do your job better, feel better, play better? Will it be the envy of your friends? Will it make somebody else happy? Will it enhance your life?

Be genuine. Is there no real purpose to this product or service other than fun? Is it fulfilling? Will it help you get from one point to another in life? Does it really have any redeeming value at all? Who is likely to find value from it?

Be empathetic. How would the customer who wants to buy this product or service feel? What do they need it to do to feel that they have made an excellent purchase? Why would this product or service do the job for them better than another? What would make you feel like you had made a good buy in this area?

Once you have figured out what you are offering, make sure that your product or service delivers what you promise and that it can be returned or adjustments made if it does not.

It is such a simple formula, but it works time and time again.

Can you up the stakes one step further? Yes, you can. Offer a strategy for showing your client how they can measure their return on investment (ROI) for purchasing your product. This does not necessarily work for every product or service, but it can for most, and with so much justification needed for every business decision in today’s marketplace, this will put you ahead of your competitors.

Sales is a bit like literature, in its own way. It is an endless cycle of listen and tell, listen and tell. When you listen to what your customer needs, you are able to tell them better how your product or service fits their unique needs.
