Hungry for Change? The Single Biggest Challenge To Overcome Is…
People are demanding change. They are hungry for more in their lives and they want to feel fulfilled and confident in themselves and their life’s journey. But many don’t know where to start to make changes. Sound familiar?
The single biggest challenge now is to re-ignite the human spirit.
With Gallup Research reporting only a third of us are engaged on the job, and claims for burn-out and stress at a historical high, it is clear that people are restless, jittery and uncomfortable with themselves and the lives they are living.
Some want big changes while others just want to have a little more in their lives to feel more fulfilled and confident in themselves. They are tired of feeling afraid, resigned and powerless, and regretful.
But knowing you want to change and getting started can be overwhelming.
Here are six easy ways to re-engage your human spirit and find your bold courage:
- Realize your potential. What you think you are and what you think you can do are your reality. If you dream of doing great things, you are ready to get started. Figure out that place where what you want to do aligns with your talents and skills, and you can start on your journey to awesome.
- Quiet your thoughts and take time to reflect on your priorities in all the sectors of your life. Having a full life isn’t just about your career, or your family, or your marathon runs or music. It is about all the components of living combined and reborn as the authentic you. In the midst of a fast-paced world, many of us have forgotten that we still need time to think and experience quiet reflection. Deliberately set aside time every three days to consider where you have come from this week and where you are going. Are you moving closer to your goal? What does happiness look like for you?
- Change your story. Life’s circumstances pre-condition all of us to respond to life in different ways. If you were born ill or poor or rich or in a different country, you see the world through the filter of that story. If you were traumatized by a bad relationship or as the victim of a crime, you will never look at the world the same again, but you can start to look through a new lens at whatever point you deliberately decide you will change your story and vision of the world. It is possible to put the past away and move steadfastly into the present. Use mindfulness practice to engage with the moments you are in and observe life from that different perspective.
- Channel your energies. We all have a certain amount of energy and a lot more commitments than we have energy or time to complete. That is why we must use our energy judiciously and direct it to ensure that we complete what we want to do and what we must do before it is wasted on tasks that just pop up and beg for our attention. Match your agenda to your goals and guard against distractions.
- Listen and observe. So many times when we embark on a journey of change we are encouraged to talk about it and let others see what we are doing. Of equal importance is the other part of that equation, which is listening and observing. When we start on a journey, it is easy to get lost. We must watch our maps or plans, and check for the signposts that direct us closer to our destination. When we are quiet, we can gather useful information and use it to ensure we are on the right route.
- Align your actions to your goals. It is so easy to go through life being busy but never really completing much. We start each day with a long list of tasks and at the end of the day, we tiredly mark checkmarks beside a rash of chores that took us no closer to where we wanted to be than if we had not done them at all. There is a tediousness and routine in all our lives, and certain things must be done if we are to sustain ourselves. But we must guard against letting a general air of busyness overcome us and suck the energy out of us and leave us too weak to take the next step to owning your awesome.
