The Self Change Process – When It’s Time To Light The Fire

When you set yourself up to be pro-active about seeking self-change, instead of reacting to circumstances that have the potential to change you, amazing things can happen.  Sometimes we need to light a fire under our self-change process and heat things up.I discovered this truth when I found that I was going through life reacting to things, and then making small changes through the process of reaction.

I wondered how I could accelerate the pace of change if instead of just reacting, I could establish a frame of mind that allowed me to actively seek change.  The secret was to shift my thinking.   I forced myself to stop focusing so much on the past and its impact on me, and instead to settle more happily into the present. I shifted my thinking to consider I would find opportunities where I least expected them, and indeed, when I looked they were there!

Some people refer to the ability to live in the present moment as mindfulness. It means stepping out in the morning into a beautiful sunrise and giving ourselves fully to its magnificence instead of fretting about what might happen tomorrow or worrying about what happened yesterday.   It is being able to sandwich in moments of quiet reflection and awareness in the midst of a hectic day. It is looking around you and touching and experiencing what is real and understanding the difference between it and the unreality of what is floating through your thought pattern.

I see it as the place from which you can launch your journey to owning your awesome again.  When you are in that place, fully giving yourself to the experience of the moment, you can start to ask yourself, “What else is possible?”   You look at life with a different perspective. You begin to see opportunities and ideas that weren’t visible to you in your former frame of mind.

When you live in the present, you avoid living in conflict with your past or future. Your internal and external being is in sync, rather than in battle with each other, and that allows you to see with a clear intent.  It is powerful and life affirming. It allows you to live in a state of being continually ignited with inspiration.  It gives you the confidence to make good decisions that are aligned with your current dreams, not lingering glimpses of your past. It refines your focus and gives tremendous clarity to your vision.

When I lit a fire under my own process for self-change, I pressed myself to commit to an ongoing daily ritual of speaking, thinking and writing from a place of positivity. It wasn’t always easy, but this necessary discipline made a huge difference in my life. The simple strategy of handling your own development by living fully in the present can steer you resolutely out of a funk and give you a new season of hope and a readiness to take action.

Like standing still when the summer wind is blowing through your hair, you feel on firm ground and yet somehow miraculously exhilarated.  I am inspired to make good decisions that align with my new dreams because I embrace self-change. When you move to that place, you will inevitably experience this same feeling.
