Why We Crave Continual Momentum
It’s not enough in life to be inspired. We need to create the momentum to move from idea to action and from one action to another.Just as a pendulum moves back and forth in constant motion, the transition from idea stage to decision stage to execution stage should move forward like a force of nature.
But so many people have great and glorious ideas but are never able to summon the momentum to get going with them and move them forward. Think about the last time that you had a great idea. I mean the kind of idea that gets you so excited you know deep in your gut that it could impact your world. Think about the excitement of an idea that pulls you out of bed in the morning and ignites your day. Think about your desire to turn that dream into reality.
Did it happen?
Or did you file it in your “must pursue this someday” file and go back to the drudgery of your day? Did you let self-doubt eat away at the edges of the idea until gradually it was lying in crumbs that you couldn’t put back together again? If that happened, you are not the only person to experience such a disappointment. Many, many people have great ideas but lack the continual momentum that is required to bring them alive and make all the decisions and actions essential to give them life.
If you constantly find inspiring ideas, you are half-way to owning your awesome. You are creative, a dreamer, and engaged in a smart life and work strategy. You are living in the present moment and observing your world and staying connected to it. But you must also crave continual momentum to make your ideas come to life. You need an intentional, focused approach to take creativity to creation. You need a plan of sustainable steps to help you increase and sustain long term momentum.
In my own life, I thrive off the process of ideation and brainstorming, and built my entire business on being able to do that. But I only started to achieve the successes I hoped for when I was able to connect practical execution of my ideas. I could see problems in the businesses of my clients, have an idea for a solution, but then I had to have the momentum to put the idea in place.
When you can do that in your business, your organization of your life, you are able to continually bring in new insights, make new decisions, and provide new options as you develop a smart plan to manage change, growth and impact in work and in life. It is tremendously important in today’s workplace for teams of people to be able to brainstorm and generate ideas for winning solutions. It is what will take your organization to the next level. It is amazing what happens once you get creative momentum.
Such a work culture provides a fresh infusion of confidence and hope. No matter how busy you get in growing your business, always allow yourself time to have ideas and get inspired and build the continual momentum to keep the process going. As an executive coach, the trend that I have most often witnessed in organizations is the stagnation that can set in when people settle for the status quo because they lack the momentum for change and growth.
The world is chaotic and hectic. So many of us want our workplace to be an oasis of stability and calm. But it doesn’t work that way. If you can’t have ideas and generate the momentum to implement them, your stability is threatened because you are standing still while everything else is moving.
I understand how difficult it is to change and why it is human nature to resist it. But when you engage with change regularly, you find there is something incredibly gratifying about landing on a sensational new idea and bringing it to life.
